President’s Update August 2020

Aug 7, 2020

Greetings, Members of MAHU!

I hope you and your families are healthy and that you’ve all taken time to enjoy yet another beautiful Michigan summer, given the challenges we are facing and the adjustments that you may have had to make.

As we continue to move forward as a country, a state and an association, please know I am honored to be the new President of MAHU. It is an absolute privilege to serve our membership and carry on the tradition of so many that have come before me. As you know, our Past President, Erika Sklar, leaves some large shoes to fill but I promise I will give you my best. Erika had the unenviable task of leading our association when the pandemic first hit and she was masterful at navigating us through so much uncertainty and change. I will look to use her experience as Past President to lead us into the future. We are facing unprecedented times, but with the help of all of you, our amazing and dedicated membership, we will be able to succeed and grow.

As a result of the pandemic, we have had to cancel some of our events that normally help us to meet our budget goals. We will need to find alternative ways to raise money and increase our membership to collect more dues. I am fortunate to have a very enthusiastic and talented board and I am assured we will overcomes the challenges and meet our goals. To begin, our membership goal is to increase our membership by a net gain of 10%. Given the current environment, this association is more important than ever to the industry and I’m confident will we see new members as result of our mission alone. If every member can recruit just one new member, we will exceed our membership goal!

More than ever, we need our voice to be heard in not only in Washington, but also in Lansing. We will be holding a virtual Leadership meeting on September 23rd and then hopefully after the first of the year, we will be back to having an CE and Legislation Day meeting in person.

I look forward to the day when I can attend a membership meeting for each chapter in person and meet many of you. In the interim, I am always available to each of you so please come to me with any questions, concerns, requests and ideas. The success of the association is a direct result of your participation and I cannot thank you enough for the time, money and effort you dedicate to MAHU.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you as the MAHU President this year!

Sincerely,
Troy Duimstra
