President’s Report – March 2021

Mar 16, 2021

Hello Members of MAHU!

I hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy!

I wanted to take the time to remind everyone how important it is to keep current on what’s happening in Washington DC.  As NAHU members, you have access to a wealth of information for our team working inside the beltway.  One of the most informative and insightful comes every Friday and is called the “NAHU Washington Update”.  It has a plethora of pertinent information that gives an in-depth explanation of what’s going on in our Nation’s Capital.  This past Friday’s update provided a very detailed and easy to understand explanation of what’s in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act.  The Washington Update is only available to members of NAHU which helps show the true value of your membership.  This information comes directly from our association employees who meet with our Legislators virtually every day.  Having this knowledge allows you to share it with your clients and gives you a leg up on your competition.  Please remember, the most important thing we can do as Americans is vote, whatever your political lean, we must stay active and involved to make a difference.  One way of the most important ways we can deliver our industry’s messages to our politicians is to complete the “Operation Shouts!” when they come from NAHU.  It takes less than two minutes, but they are very valuable because it shows we are keeping an eye on the way they are representing us.  The last Operation Shout! was sent to us this past week to urge our legislators to oppose any proposals to implement a public option, since a public option would result in less choice and control of healthcare coverage, market instability, increased cost of coverage and diminishing provider participation.  It is extremely important our voice is heard.

I wanted to remind everyone that membership is the lifeblood of our association.  We need to increase our membership now more than ever.  With the current political climate, it is vitally important to get involved and ask non-members to join.  We need new members and every MAHU member is on the Membership Committee, so please ask just one!  Also, our local chapters need board members to help share in the workload.  We have very dedicated local chapter leaders taking on a lot of different roles within the board and we need you.  Please reach out to your local chapter President and volunteer to be on a committee or accept a board position, because we need your help!!

Last but certainly not least, I would like to recognize and congratulate Caitlin Anderson and her Northern Michigan Chapter board and Tammy Deur and her Southwest Michigan Chapter board for being Gold Certified!  It is a testament to the hard work and dedicate their boards give throughout the year to our voluntary association.  Thank you!

Once again, thank you for allowing me to serve as the MAHU President!

Sincerely,
Troy Duimstra
