House Health Care Reform Package Continues in Committee
The 15 bill bipartisan health care reform package in the Michigan House of Representatives continues to heard in House Health Policy Committee hearings multiple times a week. The package aims to reduce costs to patients, ensure access to prescription drugs and medical services in underserved areas, and provide transparency on health care pricing. Several of the bills have passed out of committee including expanding the scope of practice for certified registered nurse anesthetists, requiring price transparency for pharmaceutical manufacturers, and allowing patients to renew orders for contacts over the internet. The Health Policy Committee intends to pass out the remaining bills this week with a potential vote before the entire chamber by the end of the month.
Sen. Dan Lauwers Aims to Reintroduce Health Information Data Bill
Sen. Lauwers will be reintroducing legislation from last year that would require more transparency for health claims in the large group market for employers over 100 individuals. Similar legislation was passed years ago that impacted public sector employees to increase competition amongst carriers. MAHU has previously testified in support of this legislation and is working with Senator Lauwers to ensure that independent agents have the ability to work with this data to shop for the best coverage for their clients.
